Question 1

How does Build Your Watch work?

Accepted Answer

Build Your Watch is a guided process, not a blank canvas. You choose a case, dial, hands and bracelet from options we know go together — compatibility is checked as you go, so you can't end up with a combination that doesn't actually work. Pricing updates live as you build, and your exact configuration is saved with your order.

Question 2

Do I have to use the "recommended" hands with a dial?

Accepted Answer

No. Matching hands are our recommendation and the default, not a requirement — you're free to choose any hands that are genuinely compatible with your movement and case. We only ever show combinations that actually work.

Question 3

Why did the price go up when I picked a dial?

Accepted Answer

A small number of options carry their own surcharge — for example, the "I'm Already Late" dial is +£10. It's shown as the visually selected default in the builder, but that surcharge is only added once you actively choose it, never just because it's what's preselected. You'll always see the final price before you confirm.

Question 4

What's the difference between the collection and Build Your Watch?

Accepted Answer

The collection is a set of finished designs, ready to order as shown, without further customisation from the product page. Build Your Watch is the opposite: it starts from scratch and lets you choose every component yourself.

Question 5

Are Eximius watches automatic or quartz?

Accepted Answer

Automatic. Every watch in the current range runs on a self-winding mechanical movement — no battery. See our guide on Automatic vs Quartz if you're deciding between the two.

Question 6

What movement is inside my watch?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the build. Date Only and Riviera builds use the NH35 automatic movement; Mayfair builds use the 8285 automatic movement, which adds a day complication alongside the date. See NH35 vs 8285 for the full comparison.

Question 7

What does "Seiko-compatible" mean — is Eximius affiliated with Seiko?

Accepted Answer

No. Eximius Watches is an independent brand, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or authorized by Seiko. "Seiko-compatible" describes parts and case architecture that are widely used and interchangeable across the watch-building community — it's one category of what we build, not what Eximius is. See What Is a Seiko Mod? for the full explanation.

Question 8

Why do watches in the collection cost different amounts?

Accepted Answer

Pricing is built up from the same base: £249 for an NH35 build. The Riviera's integrated case and bracelet add £30 (from £279); the Mayfair's case and 8285 movement add £50 (from £299). Any further options are priced individually and shown before checkout.

Question 9

How long will my watch take to arrive?

Accepted Answer

If every component your watch needs is already in stock, it's assembled, checked and dispatched within our standard turnaround. If something needs to be ordered in first, it takes a little longer — you'll see the current estimate at checkout and on our Craftsmanship page before you pay.

Question 10

What does delivery cost, and can I get it faster?

Accepted Answer

Standard tracked delivery within the UK is free; it usually takes 2–3 working days once your watch has been dispatched. If you'd rather have it sooner, you can choose next-day tracked delivery for £10.99, or Priority delivery for £16.99, guaranteed by 1pm the next working day and signed for with a photo at the door. Priority is insured by Royal Mail up to £750 and the price is shown before you pay.

Question 11

Do you ship internationally?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. For now we deliver within the UK only, and every order is signed for. If you'd like to order from abroad, email support@eximiuswatches.com and we'll tell you what's possible. If a tracked parcel shows no movement for 10 working days, we rebuild and reship it at no cost, no argument.

Question 12

What warranty comes with my watch?

Accepted Answer

Two years, covering defects in materials and workmanship across the movement, case, dial and bracelet. It doesn't cover accidental damage, water exposure beyond the stated rating, normal wear, or changes made by someone other than us.

Question 13

Can I return my watch if I change my mind?

Accepted Answer

Yes — within 14 days of delivery, unworn, undamaged and in its original packaging, for a full refund. You cover return postage; once it's back with us and checked, we process the refund straight away.

Question 14

How should I look after a mechanical watch?

Accepted Answer

Wear it regularly, or keep it wound if it's sitting still for more than a day or two — that's what keeps an automatic movement running accurately. Keep it away from strong magnets and shocks, and don't expose it to more water than its rating allows. Like any mechanical watch, it'll benefit from a service every few years.

Question 15

How do I get in touch?

Accepted Answer

Email support@eximiuswatches.com — you'll hear back from the person actually building the watches, usually within 1-2 business days.
